Dr. Braxton Risetter grew up in Jewell and attended South Hamilton High School, so returning to this part of Iowa isn’t just a career move — it’s coming home. He’s genuinely excited to become part of the Story City community and to continue the outstanding practice built by Dr. Scott Thompson.
Dr. Risetter earned his undergraduate degree from Grand View University, where he graduated top of his class and competed on the national championship golf team. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, where he developed a special focus in endodontics, extractions, and restorative dentistry. He uses a surgical microscope and the latest techniques to deliver precise, high-quality care.
Outside the office, Dr. Risetter’s world revolves around his family. He and his wife Lexi are both small-town kids at heart — so when it came time to put down roots and raise their children Blair and Crew, a tight-knit community like Story City wasn’t just a preference, it was the plan. They wanted their kids to grow up the same way they did, in a place where people know your name and neighbors look out for each other.
When they’re not at the office, you’ll find the Risetters walking their golden retriever Rusty, hitting golf balls, cooking together, going out for ice cream, or settled in for a family movie night.
At the core of everything Dr. Risetter does is a deep commitment to integrity and honesty — values rooted in his faith and driven by his love for his family. He believes that treating people the right way isn’t just good practice, it’s a calling. In dentistry, that means never recommending something a patient doesn’t need, always being straight about what he finds, and making sure every person who sits in his chair feels respected and genuinely cared for — not just treated.

Scott has been practicing dentistry in Story City for 20+ years. His commitment to his patients, his attention to detail, and his genuine care for the people of this community have earned him a reputation that speaks for itself. Outside the office, Dr. Thompson is a devoted husband to his wife Jennifer and a proud father of three daughters. He’s a passionate Hawkeyes fan and deeply rooted in the Story City community he has served for so many years.
